RESIDENTIAL COURSES for Primary and Middle Schools

How Hill offers children a magical experience of the natural world, and for many it provides a first taste of life away from home. We offer fully structured courses in environmental subjects tailored to the requirements of the teachers accompanying school groups. If a class is studying particular themes or topics, then a field course at How Hill can be used to draw together appropriate strands of study, or to introduce a new area of work.
Our residential courses are practical, using the full resources of our 360 acre nature reserve. Our most popular field studies activities are dyke-dipping, woodland ecology, nature trails, expeditions to the reed beds and windmills, and the river trip to Barton Broad. We also offer practical craft activities related to the environment, such as thatching, weaving and clay work. These activities help to broaden the appeal of a week at How Hill and ensure that all children find something they can enjoy.
The social and educational benefits of a stay at How Hill have been proven by generations of school children. However, we are always open to new ideas and are constantly finding new ways of exploring the environment and of promoting children's natural interest in the outdoor world.

RESIDENTIAL COURSES for Secondary Schools

How Hill offers unrivalled scope for residential study courses, and should be of interest to all staff, especially those involved in ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES, GEOGRAPHY, and BIOLOGY. Courses can be tailored to your syllabus requirements for GCSE. For example, Biology courses may require a study of either freshwater or woodland ecology, both strongly represented at How Hill. We can offer the necessary laboratory equipment and visual aids, and our teaching staff are qualified and experienced in all branches of field study for schools and colleges. Our flexible approach enables you to decide on length of stay and content of a residential course. Our teaching staff will help you plan and implement a programme suited to your syllabus needs - or alternatively, we can provide a ready planned course for you. We can offer as much - or as little - teaching input as you require.

PRICES

Exact prices depend on the number and age of the children you bring, as well as the length of your stay: for every ten places, there is one free place for staff. Please telephone for the current price
